Mobile dog grooming vs a salon

A mobile groomer brings a fitted van to your door: one dog at a time, no car trip, no waiting in a cage. A salon is often a little cheaper but means a drop-off and pick-up. Nervous, old and big dogs usually do better with mobile.

Mobile grooming

  • One-on-one: your dog is the only one in the van
  • No car ride and no other dogs barking
  • Usually done in 1 to 2 hours, then your dog is home
  • You need parking outside, and the van brings its own water and power

A salon

  • You drop off and collect, often a few hours apart
  • Several dogs at once, sometimes in crates between steps
  • Often a little cheaper
  • Good for confident, social dogs

Which dogs do better with which

  • Mobile: nervous dogs, old dogs, dogs that get car-sick, big dogs that are hard to lift into a car, and owners who work from home
  • Salon: social dogs, and owners who pass a salon on the way to work

Questions

Is mobile dog grooming more expensive?

Often a little, because the groomer travels and does one dog at a time. You save the trip there and back.

What do I need for a mobile groom?

Space for the van to park near your door. Most vans carry their own water and power.
